[un]finished opening reception

Free up your Saturday night and gas up the car, it's a road trip to Sheboygan!  Please join myself and a whole bunch of great artists at the opening of [un]finished at EFFJAY PROJEKTS on Saturday, November 10, 2012 from 5-8 pm.

EFFJAY PROJEKTS Gallery is pleased to announce two exhibitions titled, ‘[un]finished’ and ‘New Works' by Timon Tupper. ‘[un]finished’ features works Beki Borman, Judy Dubrosky, Laura Gorzek, Adam Horwitz, Leah Schreiber Johnson, Maureen Kane, Michael Kautzer, Tiffany Knopow, Mary Overman, Jessica Poor, Melissa Dorn Richards, Sara Risley, Maggie Sasso, Jessica Z Schafer, Anja Notanja Sieger, Becky Tesch, Dean Valadez, and Serena Weits. Timon Tupper from Sheboygan will be exhibiting new works.

Join us for an artist reception on November 10 from 5 to 8pm. Artist talks start at 6pm. The gallery is located at 604 Erie Avenue, Lower Level in Sheboygan. This exhibition runs from November 8 – December 1, 2012.

Becky Tesch, curator, states that most artists have partially finished works in our studios that are collecting dust. They did not go as planned (if there ever was a plan), and they got frustrated, distracted by other projects, and set them aside. For some reason however, they did not throw them away. Tesch's never ending quest to find new uses for things resulted in inviting 18 artists swap unfinished works and work to finish each others pieces.

"I don't just want to hang a show, I want to create new experiences for us”, says Tesch.

In Gallery II, Sheboygan-based stencil/street artist Timon Tupper will be exhibiting new works.

Gallery hours are Thursday and Friday from 5-8pm, Saturdays from 11-3pm and by appointment.

Open to the public.

[un]finished show

I am honored to be a part of a group of artists participating in a show called [un]finished.  It's a great concept, curated by Becky Tesch, artists swap unfinished work and then finish each others work!  I have been paired with Melissa Dorn Richards so we have each others work.  I have finished working on her sculptures and she is working with some latex prints and some cut Shout Color Catchers of mine.

Featured Member, why thank you!

Wowsa!  Walkers Point Center for the Arts is always on my list of favorite places to visit and support but now I like them even more.  I have been chosen from the members show to be one of four featured members!  So that means that each of us (Jessica Z. Schafer, Jean D. Sobon, and Chris Andrews) will have a space in WPCA for each of the next four gallery nights in Milwaukee. My work is first up so please come and join me for the Fall Gallery night, October 19th and 20th.

Opening Information:

Oct 19, 2012 – Jan 4, 2013
Opening Reception: Fall Gallery Night, Friday, October 19th from 5 – 9pm

WPCA is proud to announce the beginning of our Featured Member exhibition series. Artists are juried from the body of work included in WPCA’s Annual Members Show, a non-juried exhibition of our Members, which takes place every September.

Knopow is interested in creating systems to capture fleeting phenomena. The content of each system revolves around a fascination with collecting the uncollectible; items that are too common, too gross, or intangible to exist in a proper collection. Each item has a separate system, some as simple as just collecting the object and others involve more traditional recordkeeping. Eventually, the objects and/or the record of the objects become part of an archive to preserve the item for examination in the future, elevating the uncollectible to the aesthetic. Knopow’s hope in each collection is to create something so beautiful that the viewer is compelled to investigate the piece and then completely surprised by the material.
